Ring-necked Pheasant (wild) - Palo Alto Baylands |
Description
The Ring-necked Pheasant was introduced into North America from Asia and is established over much of the continent, especially in agricultural lands. It is a distinctive and colorful species and is a popular game bird.I am told that the Pheasants in the Palo Alto Baylands Preserve once lived on a local farm. These are ones from the ancestors who escaped and have taken up living in the Baylands. The ones I have met are very friendly.
WHERE: Palo Alto Baylands Preserve near both The Lucy Evans Center and Harriet Mundy Marsh. Tends to roam all over the park.
WHEN: November
